Capsule Geology

The Vanhall occurrence is located in the west of Vanstone (Horseshoe) Creek, near its divide with the Heber River, approximately 16 kilometres north-northeast of the town of Gold River.

The majority of area is underlain by grey-green weathering, quartz-calcite amygdaloidal basalt of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen Formation. The basalt sequence is cut by five distinct intrusive suites, which include: lamprophyre dykes; medium-grained, equigranular granodiorite dykes; strongly feldspar-hornblende porphyritic dykes of intermediate composition; a fresh, hornblende granodiorite stock of likely Early Cretaceous age; and a small, poorly exposed stock, or dyke, of dioritic composition near the north-west corner of the property. Silicification, chloritization and epidotization are observed, and a 914 by 305-metre area contains abundant disseminated pyrite.

Locally, disseminated, up to 5 per cent, chalcopyrite and pyrite in silicified andesite and a dacite porphyry dike occur over an area 2.5 by 15 metres. Traces of molybdenite associated with a quartz-vein are noted in the area as well.

The Vanhall showing was discovered in 1969 by David Arscott of Moresby Mines Ltd. while doing sampling, prospecting and mapping in the area. Highlights of the sampling program include a sample (1040) from a 0.45-metre sulphide vein which assayed 0.55 per cent copper, 0.02 per cent molybdenum and 26.8 grams per tonne silver. A select sample (1034) of near massive sulphide material yielded 1.72 per cent copper and 32.6 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 2436).

In 1972, Moresby Mines Ltd. completed soil sampling on the Vanhall property. A chip sample (DA-2) yielded 2.06 per cent copper, 2.06 grams per tonne silver and 1.37 grams per tonne gold over 0.2 metre (Assessment Report 3953).

In 1980, Eastern Leaseholds Ltd. conducted soil sampling on the Vanhall property.

In 1981, Eastern Leaseholds Ltd. completed airborne EM and magnetic surveys over the Vanhall and Shannon claims.

In 1994, Cominco Ltd. renamed the property to Chumming and completed an exploration program consisting of geological mapping, prospecting and soil sampling.

In 1997, Cominco Ltd. completed an exploration program of soil and rock sampling and geophysical surveys.

In 2011, Universal Ventures Inc. combined the Vanhall, Heb (MINFILE 092F 401) and Tibor claims into one property, renamed the Tib property, and completed an airborne geophysics survey and small sampling program.

In 2012, Universal Ventures Inc. completed geophysical surveys, prospecting, mapping and chip sampling on the Tib property.

In 2017 and 2018 an interpretive study followed by limited rock sampling was conducted in the Vanstone Creek area by tenure holder K. Galambos (Assessment Reports 37381, 38287).
